1. A sizeable portion of Korea's population lives in apartments. But as we often hear in the news, noise complaints   between floors are becoming a major issue in our society.

 

• 우리나라 인구의 상당수는 아파트에서 생활은 한다. 하지만 뉴스에서도 심심찮게 등장하듯이 층간소음 문제가 우리 사회에서 점점 화두가 되고 있다.

2. These conflicts have led to abusive language, violence and even murder cases.

 

• 이러한 갈등 때문에 이웃 간의 폭언이나 폭력 심지어 살인사건까지 일어나고 있다. 

3. Anyone who has had a noisy upstairs neighbor can commiserate with people who have had that kind of distress. It's so bad that it can even feel like torture.

 

• 시끄러운 윗집 이웃을 경험해 본 사람이라면 이러한 종류의 고충을 겪어 본 사람의 심정을 공감할 수 있을 것이다. 이는 너무 심각해서 고문에 가까울 정도이다.

4. Our homes are places where we should be getting R and R. It's awful to consider what it would be like if one's home became a source of stress.

 

• 휴식과 안정을 취해야 할 집이 스트레스의 원인이 된다면 어떨지 생각만으로도 끔찍하다.

5. What really takes the cake is that the problem can't be prevented or resolved only with one's own intent or effort.

 

• 이 층간 소음문제는 본인의 의지나 노력만으로 예방하거나 해결하기가 어렵다는 것이 더욱 답답한 노릇이다.

6. Noise complaints can't be fixed without good manners and cosideration between neighbors.

 

• 층간소음 문제는 이웃 간의 예절과 배려심 없이는 해결될 수 없다.

7. We spend even more time at home in this age of COVID-19. Being cosideration of downstairs neighbors is all the more important now.

 

• 코로나 19 시대에 집에 머무는 시간이 훨씬 더 늘어난 요즘, 아래층 이웃을 배려하는 것이 더욱더 중요하다.
